This vanity cure has other uses!

The last major vanity cure was that for erectile dysfunction. Aging falls under the same category; however the cure for Parkinsons and Mitochondrial disorders can benefit from any findings related to aging. Hopefully influential aging people will put their weight (and money) behind some of this research. Replacement of mitochondrial proteins seems to be an exciting approach.

Here is a summary of the latest research directions.

Suggestion for mito patients...

If you have a mitochondrial disorder or have lactic acidosis of any kind, this message is for you.

If you are not on B1 already, you should try it. If on B1 already and you still have tingling or confusion, provide double the dose(max 3 times adult dose). B1 is one of the most troublesome of the deficiencies caused in Mito cases.

Read about Beri Beri here. Recovery is slow.
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000339.htm

The B1 deficiency seems to happen due to lactic acidosis(observed in Gastric bypass patients, a massively invasive surgical procedure).

Hope that helps.

Failure of the AIDS vaccine...

The failure of the AIDS vaccine is a disappointment. Most of the new medications now being designed are either lifestyle drugs or drugs for controlling the disease. This was the only major vaccine that seemed to be in the works and initiated by a major pharmaceutical company.

Hopefully the efforts will continue.

A top level approach to handle foeticide.

The government of India has proposed an action to prevent foeticide. The approach should help in overall women health issues for a long time to come and will be a useful deterrent to female foeticide if implemented and enforced.

Hopefully China will take the lead and implement something similar there too. They have an even worser problem related to female foeticide.

Rare diseases: Not getting enough attention

People that suffer rare diseases get a double whammy. First the doctors tends to diagnose the disease based on the evidence available, which turns out wrong. Then the patient will eventually find out that there is no approved medication available and that over the counter drugs or off-label usage are the only way to treat the condition.

Most of the rare diseases also happen to be genetic diseases. One example is mitochondrial deficiency disorder. With more and more pharmaceutical companies being run by financial and risk management folks, rare diseases are not going to get enough attention. The only attention comes from pure research as all of the rare diseases are wide open as to research options.

It would be nice to have a fraction of money go into improving circulation around the eyes rather then pouring billions into improving circulation in a particular male organ. But ofcourse that is not going to happen.

As the TV drug ads will tell you, almost all males need more blood in that particular organ. Much easier to sell fake drugs to cure fake conditions afflicting all, than making real drugs to cure real conditions affecting a few.

Please ask your doctor if xxx is right for you. Did you know that ads are not allowed for medicines?

Stop female infanticide and foeticide...

Punjabis, Gujratis and Haryanvis constitute the finest men and women India have to offer. However, they have maintained vestiges of cruelty worser than the practice of Sati in the matter of female foeticide.

It is quite possible that the practice of female dowry arose as a result of reduction in the number of men in India due to constant warring and the genetic robustness of the female fetus. Historically, in the absence of genetic testing, infanticide was the only available option for discarding the female child. This heinous practice continues today in the southern parts of India where families cannot afford an illegal ultrasound test. People in Punjab, Haryana and other Western states can afford the illegal test to determine the sex of the baby and discard it if it happens to be a female. Thus the act of having a family gets reduced to an economic activity instead of a union of two souls.

As India becomes a stable country and males do not get consumed to hateful acts by fellow humans, the number of males have gone up. However, the practice of dowry remains stronger than ever. The families that commit female foeticide love their living daughters, however that passion is not extended to the fetus. The progressive feminine movements tend to have mixed feeling towards this cruelty as they are in favor of overall freedom of abortion. Their voices get blunted as they have to support both sides of the coin. The religious conservatives are too steeped in social prejudices to be paying attention to the words of Guru Nanak in this regard. True adherence to the Gurus words and bravery are the only way out of this inhuman condition of the human spirit.

"From the woman is our birth, in the woman's womb are we shaped;
To the woman we are engaged, to the woman we are wedded;
The woman is our friend and from the woman is the family;
If one woman dies, we seek another, through the woman are the bonds of the world;
Why call woman evil who gives birth to kings?
From the woman comes the woman, without woman there is none;
O Nanak, God alone is the one Who is independent of the woman (because He is unborn)."
(Var Asa Mohalla 1, 2-19, p-473) (Reproduced from Sikhism Philosophy Network)

Please encourage your loved ones and encourage the people in the western and southern parts of India not to indulge in this heinous practice. We might be depriving the world of a future Olympian athlete, doctor, artist or prime minister!

Empowerment

Reflecting at the years since India achieved its independence, there has been steady improvement in the status of women and children.
